SGCC Galvanized has a yield strength of 240 MPa (34.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) — weaker than 96% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 34% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi). SGCC Galvanized has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,500°C (2,732 °F). Chemical Resistance SummaryZinc coating gives sacrificial protection in neutral atmospheres and fresh water; rapidly attacked by acids (pH<6), strong alkalis (pH>12), ammonia, chlorides in wet/condensing service, and by contact with copper/graphite. Is SGCC easy to machine?

Rarely machined — punch, laser or plasma cut; use sharp tooling and light lubrication to avoid burrs and zinc pick-up, and expect zinc dust extraction on laser lines.

Can SGCC be welded?

Excellent resistance spot/seam weldability with ~20–30 % higher current and more frequent tip dressing; for MIG use ER70S-6 with wider gap/slower travel to vent zinc, ventilate for zinc-oxide fume, and re-protect welds with zinc-rich paint.

Can SGCC be formed, bent or molded?

Good bending, roll forming and shallow drawing (commercial quality only — use SGCD1/SGCE for deep draws); keep bend radii ≥1t and coating side outward, heavy Z27 coating can powder on tight bends.

CR: the annealed cold-rolled substrate SGCC is made from; quoted when the coating is stripped, laser-cut edges dominate, or SPCC-equivalent base properties are needed. Yield strength is 250 MPa in HR versus 210 MPa in CR.
