Machine in the annealed or high-tempered condition with rigid setups, positive rake carbide, ~60–90 m/min and heavy flood coolant; it work-hardens and gums less than austenitics but leaves stringy chips — avoid dwelling to prevent glazing.
Can 410HT be welded?
Weldable with matched 410/410NiMo or austenitic 309/E309L filler; preheat 200–300 °C, keep interpass warm and temper at 650–730 °C after welding to restore ductility, otherwise the martensitic HAZ cracks.
