Working with 5025-O
Is 5025 easy to machine?
Soft and gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed, generous flood or MQL lubrication and chip-breaking geometry to avoid built-up edge.
Can 5025 be welded?
Readily GTAW/GMAW welded with 5356 (or 5183/5556 for higher strength) filler; the weld reverts to near-O properties, so design joints on annealed strength.
Can 5025 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in O/H22/H32; allow for springback in H3x tempers and inter-anneal at 340–380 °C for severe multi-stage draws.
What surface finishes work on 5025?
Anodises bright and uniformly, takes conversion coating and paint well; poor for brazing and only fair for soldering because of the magnesium oxide film.
