Working with 1350-H26

Is 1350 easy to machine?

Very soft and gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high speed, flood lubrication and sharp edges to avoid built-up edge and burrs; drilled bus bar holes should be deburred to prevent hot spots.

Can 1350 be welded?

Excellent with GTAW/GMAW using 1100 or 4043 filler and He/Ar; weld metal has lower strength but near-parent conductivity, so bus joints are often welded rather than bolted.

Can 1350 be formed, bent or molded?

Outstanding cold formability in O/H111 (deep bends, drawing to fine wire); H19 wire is essentially non-formable and will crack on tight bends — form before final drawing or re-anneal.

What surface finishes work on 1350?

Anodizes bright but the film is insulating, so conductor surfaces are left bare, tin/silver plated, or grease-protected; bolted joints need wire-brushing plus joint compound and Belleville washers to counter creep.
